On the auspicious occasion of H.M. the Queen’s 72nd birthday anniversary, some of her loyal subjects offer three big Buddhist statues to Parbatya Bouddha Mission, Khangrachari Hill Tract, Bangladesh per request. Thai Airways International Plc. fly those statues gratis to Royal Orchid Services. They all wish to offer the merit gained on this worthy Karma to H.M., Long live The Queen. The Venerable Sumanalankar Mahathero is a senior member of International Network of Engaged Buddhists. In his country, Bangladesh, Buddhists are minority. Buddhism is practiced by indigenous ethnic groups in the mountainous region to the east of the country. In his region, he has put much effort in propagating Dhamma and promoting Buddhist practice among his people He, together with monks and laypeople, established Parbatya Bouddha Mission (PBM) since 1983 with himself as a president in district of Khagrachari Hill Tracts in the less developed and poor region of Chittagong Hill Tracts. PBM since then provide services to indigenous ethnic minority such as orphanage program, poverty eradicating program, etc. based on Buddha’s teachings. The Venerable Sumanalankar Mahathero considered that, if the PBM as a Buddhist organization propagating Buddhism has some Buddhist statues, this would affirm confidence of his people in Buddhist practice and encourage application of Buddhism for the benefit of the multitude. He therefore send a request to Thailand in a very auspicious moment that Thai people are celebrating the 72th birthday of our beloved H.M. the Queen. Now casting of the three big Buddha statues is finished since end of September 2004. Thai Airways International will join this act of merit by transporting them to Parbatya Bouddha Mission free of charge.
