Interfaith Solidarity Forest Walks
The Interfaith Solidarity Forest Walks was originally a collaboration between
the Boulder Institute for Nature and Human Spirit and the Spirit in Education
Movement. Titled the Deep Ecology Forest Walks it took a small group of activists
and NGO workers into the Hills of Nothern Siam so that they might meditate
and learn about being part of nature. After a few years these small group
started to become more involved with the Hill-Tribe peoples and learning about
the importance of their sustainable way of life and culture. In particular
the PgazK'Nyau (Karen) people impressed the participants with their strong
urge to look after the forest and maintain their way of life in the face of
modern consumerism and unsustainable development. Now the walks are called
'Interfaith Solidarity' which means the joining of people from many different
backgrounds and walks-of-life - Westerners, Asians, Christians, Buddhists,
Hindus, activists - to come together with the indigenous peoples of Northern
Siam and to learn from each other.
